Meet Dr. Brian Hartman
An orthodontist who never really left the place he grew up.
Dr. Hartman graduated from Dimond High School in 1991 and, apart from college in Boulder and dental school in Portland, has never called anywhere but Anchorage home. He’s been practicing orthodontics here since 2001 — long enough to have straightened the smiles of kids who are now bringing in kids of their own.
Outside the office, you’re more likely to find him in a cockpit than on a golf course.
He also keeps a small flock of sheep, which he’ll tell you teaches more patience than dental school ever did.
When the weather cooperates, he’s out with a camera — some of his landscape and aerial work is shot under his own label, Alaska Born Images. That’s his photo of a ski-plane parked on a glacier above.
It’s not really a coincidence that a man who spends his weekends trusting instruments, timing a shot, and tending something slow-growing is also exceptional at orthodontics. Every one of those runs on the same instinct: pay close attention, move deliberately, and don’t rush what’s worth doing right.
He lives in Anchorage with his wife, Kristy, and their two kids, Thomas and Taylor — pictured with him below.
