Retainers & Aftercare

Wear schedule, cleaning, and what to do if a retainer breaks or stops fitting.

Teeth want to move back toward where they started — retainers are what stop that. Plan on full-time wear for the first few months after treatment, then nights-only indefinitely. "Indefinitely" means exactly that; teeth can shift years after braces come off if retainers stop.

Clean a removable retainer with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water — never boiling water or the dishwasher, both will warp it. If it stops fitting, cracks, or goes missing, call us before it's been more than a few days without one; small shifts are easy to catch early and much harder to fix once teeth have settled into a new position.
